About Fieldnote

That's not a marketing line. It's how I've worked my entire career — reading organizational environments with unusual precision, translating what I see into language that helps leaders understand where they actually are, and advising on what's required before the gap between internal truth and external expression becomes a full communications crisis.

I've spent over a decade inside some of the most complex communications environments in the DC nonprofit and philanthropic sector — working at the intersection of leadership, strategy, and narrative. The title has changed. The work hasn't: I help leaders understand what's actually happening and what it means.

What I've learned is that most organizations don't have a communications problem. They have a coherence problem. The messaging breaks down because something internal is misaligned — in the leadership, the culture, the gap between what's being performed and what's true. I find that gap. I give it language. And I help leaders close it.

My work sits at an unusual intersection: rigorous strategic analysis, deep cultural fluency, and the kind of precise communication that makes complex things legible. I bring all of it to bear in every engagement — whether I'm advising an institution on its positioning or working with a leader on their own.

Meet Michelle

I'm a strategist, advisor, and what I can only describe as a lifelong, introverted motor-mouth who found her calling in helping other people find their words.

I've spent fifteen years working across nonprofit, philanthropic, government, and corporate settings, and one thing has been true in every context: the rules of making ideas land are the same. What changes is whether you know how to apply them to yourself.

That's the work I do. I'm unusually good at seeing what people can't see in themselves — the expertise they're walking past, the value they're underselling, the story they're sitting on — and building the strategic narrative that makes it legible to the world. A master's degree, a pandemic, and a few forced reinventions along the way gave me both the theory and the lived understanding of what it actually takes to be seen clearly in rooms not always designed with you in mind.

I work with leaders and organizations who are ready to stop being translated and start being understood.

My Philosophy

Here, creativity meets opportunity. Whatever you're building, we're here to help you take the first step with confidence. Driven by curiosity and built on purpose, this is where bold thinking meets thoughtful execution. Let’s create something meaningful together.

  • When what a leader says, values, and does are in alignment — teams trust, stakeholders believe, and the work lands. When they're not, no amount of better messaging fixes it. I work upstream.

  • The leaders I work with often know something is wrong before they can say what it is. Part of what I do is give them that language — so they can act with precision rather than guessing at the symptom.

  • I don't do surface-level strategy. I don't do quick fixes. I do the kind of rigorous, discerning work that holds up over time — because that's what the leaders I serve require.
